School Mystery! Can you guess what the heck these things are?
This is where we run. My friend Cooper and I. Well, he runs, I walk fast. It is a grassy area that is adjacent to one of North Oxnard's most sought after schools, Thurgood Marshall Elementary School.
It is an area that allows him to go at a full gallop and besides that, it is the "home of the Bulldogs" (see or squint at pic) and I have an American Bull dog. Ergo, this is his home, right? Makes sense to me!
So over the past 2-3 months, we (Cooper and I) have been noticing these pillars and construction going on at the school. They kind of looked like shade structures over the parking area, but only in one section. So maybe for just the teacher of the month, principal and staff?
Then they started appearing over by some lunch benches and over near the playground. So they can't be parking shade. What they heck are they?
I had resigned myself to waiting until school started to get a clue to this mystery. Finally the local paper, the Ventura County Star, revealed the long awaited answer.
"The Oxnard School District has been installing solar panels this summer at four schools, adding to a growing list of "green energy" installations at public facilities in the Ventura County region.
Let me repeat, "It will be providing 100% of Marshall's energy needs." I think that is huge!
It went on to say that their strategic placement would also enhance shade at some parking, lunch and play areas. Now how cool is that? Pun intended!
Did you guess what they were before the reveal? If you did, congrats, you are greener than I am!
